A British champion was suspended from the Olympics due to cruelty to a horse (5 photos + 1 video)
A video has appeared online that puts an end to Charlotte Dujardin's participation in the Olympic Games. In the video, the three-time Olympic champion in equestrian sports trains a rider and mercilessly beats a horse with a whip. 
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has launched an investigation into the incident and has suspended Dujardin from competition for six months. 
"A video from four years ago has emerged showing me making a mistake during training. What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train horses or teach students, but there is no excuse for it. I am deeply ashamed as I should have been setting a better example in that situation. I sincerely regret my actions and am heartbroken that I let everyone down, including Team GB, fans and sponsors," the athlete wrote on social media.

FIE President Ingmar de Vos said the organisation was "deeply saddened by what happened".
"However, we have a responsibility to stop any abuse as the welfare of horses cannot be compromised. Charlotte has expressed genuine remorse for her actions and we appreciate her willingness to take responsibility. Despite the unfortunate timing, we believe our decision reaffirms the FEI's commitment to equine welfare," de Vos said. 
39-year-old Dujardin has won gold three times at the Olympics - two victories in London 2012 and one in Rio 2016. In total, she has six Olympic medals, including two bronzes in Tokyo 2021.
