A tree cut down in half after an argument has become a tourist attraction (4 photos)

The story of the “half-tree” received wide publicity in the world media. People living next to the house near which the sawn tree grows claim that city guests constantly come to take pictures.

A half-cut tree in the suburbs of Sheffield (UK), which "reappeared" after a quarrel with neighbors, has become a tourist attraction with its own reviews on Google.

The conflict occurred between Bharat Mistry and the Lee family, both over 70. As a result of a fierce dispute over territory, the couple decided to take radical measures. The tree was sawn in half by Irene and Graham Lee.

Mr Misty said the couple were angry that the birds had made a nest and littered their driveway with droppings. Before the “extreme pruning” in 2021, the tree had stood outside their home for 25 years. According to local residents, three years later, visitors to the city still visit their street to look at it.

The tree was marked as a tourist attraction on Google Maps, and visitors began leaving reviews.

"An interesting tree that was cut in half due to a feud between neighbors. This story was also in the news and it was interesting to visit this place and see how the news turns into real life. Google street view has not been updated for about 10 years, so you can see the original tree before it was cut down. Not worth the long drive, but if you've been around it's worth a visit,” wrote one three-star reviewer.

Neither Bharat Mistress nor the Lees returned calls from reporters this week. But neighbors say they have not repaired their relationship since their quarrel went viral in the world's press. One woman, who did not want to be named, said:

"I think it's like a landmark now. All the walkers come here and they all go outside to look. They go up to the tree and take pictures. Even when houses were for sale, they used it as a landmark and said, 'This is next to that half-tree." It's become famous, so now they can leave it like that," said one woman, who did not want to be named.

The story of the "half tree" received wide publicity in 2021. Speaking on a TV show, Mr Mistry said that he was completely shocked after the tree was cut down. A man has told how he and his family watched in horror as a team of lumberjacks sawed down their beloved tree.

"We begged and begged them not to do it, but they had already made up their minds. That tree had to fall. I think they have the right to cut down anything that overhangs his property. But you have to ask, why would they do that after 25 years? " - he said.
