A hand-painted figurine of bounty hunter Boba Fett firing missiles is believed to be one of only two surviving examples.
An extremely rare Boba Fett figurine from the famous Star Wars film, measuring just 9.5cm tall, was sold at auction for a record $525,000.
Heritage Auctions has announced that the item has become the world's most valuable vintage toy after fetching a record price on May 31.
Boba Fett's price even beat the record of a 1-carat diamond Barbie, which sold for $302,000 in 2010.
The hand-painted, rocket-firing bounty hunter is believed to be one of only two surviving examples made for Kenner's Star Wars toy line in the 1970s, experts say.
“The figurine of Boba Fett, who shoots rockets, has long become so mythical that people all over the world are aware of its existence, even if they don’t collect anything at all. This unique toy has become the most valuable in the world and has every chance of entering the book of records,” — said Heritage Auctions Executive Vice President Joe Maddalena.
By the way, another Boba Fett figurine in the original packaging, released in 1979, was sold at auction on May 31 for $84,375.
