On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix, Mercedes-Benz presented the first model from the ultra-luxurious Mythos line, announced two years ago. A supercar called Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed debuted as a concept and will go into production only in 2025, but it is already known that only 250 cars are planned to be assembled.

Taking the production Mercedes-AMG SL convertible as a basis, the brand's designers completely changed its image through not too large-scale reworkings. The front end of the PureSpeed references the Mercedes-AMG One, but the bumper air vents are similar to the design of most other production AMGs, and the lighting remains standard. Massive aerodynamic pads appeared on the sides, and the stern received a new diffuser.

The convertible lost its windshield and rear seats. Instead of the second row, there are “humps” characteristic of spiders, which, according to the creators, should refer not to modern models, but to the classics, in particular to the 300 SLR, on which Stirling Moss won the Mille Miglia in 1955 with a record result. Another reference to antiquity is hidden in the color scheme of the concept. For the first time, a racing Mercedes was painted red exactly 100 years ago for the Sicilian Targa Florio race (before that the cars were white), and the company believes that the color played a significant role in the victory of the sports car.

Only modest visors protect PureSpeed riders from the oncoming wind. The designers borrowed the idea of ensuring safety during rollovers from Formula 1 by installing a massive jumper between the seats. In addition to the main function, it should visually associate the new supercar with the Royal Racing cars. It is stated that each commercial spider will be accompanied by two helmets designed in the style of a specific instance.

The interior of the exclusive supercar has not yet been declassified, and not a word has been said about the technical part. It can be assumed that the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed will receive a retuned suspension - it has already been stated that the first-born of the Mythos line should give some new handling sensations. At the same time, the power unit may be untouched: the standard AMG SL 63 in the most extreme version is equipped with an 816-horsepower combination of a 4-liter V8 and two electric motors, which allow it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz has already hinted that the main advantages of models from the Mythos line will be a strictly limited edition and limitless personalization possibilities, thanks to which each car will be unique. Thus, the company, in fact, took an example from a number of other premium brands that have long established the production of small-scale exclusive wheels for collectors. It is expected that the conveyor version of PureSpeed will cost at least half a million euros.
