Scientists from South Korea analyzed the composition of various salts from stores. And it turned out that one of the most microplastic-contaminated salts is sold in Asia. Microplastics are tiny particles that remain after plastic decomposes in the oceans.





Is it possible to extract plastic from salt?

That is, Asians don’t just salt their food, they also sprinkle it with microplastics. It was estimated that 2,000 pieces of microplastic could be eaten per year with just salt if you eat 10 grams per day.

Scientists analyzed 39 brands of salt from stores around the world. The highest salt content was in stamps from Indonesia, followed by China in second place.

This is because Indonesia is one of the largest producers of plastic waste on Earth. It produces 3 million tons per year, which end up in rivers and seas around the country.

You know that Bali has its own “dark side” besides the colorful one from the photographs. The islands are regularly cleaned for tourists, but there are entire island dumps where bags, glasses and bottles from all the islands are simply taken. Indonesians usually don’t like to photograph them.

Microplastics enter the body of any person. It is found in bottled water, in tap water, as fish swim around polluted shores, and in the fish that ends up on our table. It would be foolish to think that it will not be in salt.

The whole question is what is more there – microplastic in salt or salt in microplastic.

The only conclusion that Korean scientists have come to is very disappointing - there is no way out of the plastic crisis, and it is impossible to stop it from entering the oceans.
