Renovating an old house turned into a nightmare (5 photos + 2 videos)
Jenna Phipps believed that renovating an old house would cost much less than buying a new home. Then she did not yet know about the annoying “guests” and the scale of destruction. She shared her bitter experience in a series of videos.
“We are stuck in this abandoned house and are trying to repair it. When we were dismantling the walls, we found friends,” the girl said.
Nick, Phipps's lover, removed the installation from the ceiling, and hundreds of ants rained down on him. “Not as much as I thought,” admitted Jenna, who has been documenting the renovation process since February.
However, the clothing designer agreed that her least favorite part was pest control.
The work process is followed by 1.8 million subscribers. The new owners have already met one rat, two mice, three anthills and a suitcase containing a Boy Scout book, clothes and unopened Christmas gifts (one of which contained a teapot).
Of course, the couple does not do everything on their own; they are helped by civil engineers.
The house belonged to the family who built it more than 60 years ago. Jenna bought it earlier this year.
"He looks a little unkempt, but I believe I can get him back in order," Phipps added.
However, the opinions of her subscribers were divided:
"You can do it. The process is so fun to watch and when you finish the renovation, the house will be absolutely stunning!" - one of the users expressed his opinion.
Another criticized: "I don't know why people buy run-down houses. You're not saving money, you're wasting time and effort tearing it down, you're exposing yourself to toxins and biohazards. It's not worth it. It's a lot worse than you think, especially if there is mold."
A third supported the girl: "I think some people give up too quickly, but that's definitely not the case for you. Perseverance will pay off, you're doing great. This house is a real treasure of the last century, and it's worth saving."
