The largest consignment of stolen cars, which were being prepared to be sent to other countries, was caught in the port of Canada (2 photos)
The Canada Border Services Agency and Ontario Provincial Police have released the fruits of a joint operation called Project Vector, during which 598 stolen vehicles were recovered from the Port of Montreal between the end of December 2023 and the end of March 2024.
In total, during the action, 390 shipping containers were opened and inspected, containing 483 cars stolen in Ontario and 115 from Quebec, worth over 35 million Canadian dollars. However, considering that a car is stolen every five minutes in Canada, this is literally a drop in the bucket.
As a rule, thieves gain access to a car chosen for theft in three ways: by intercepting a radio signal from the car owner’s key fob, by programming a new key, or by connecting special devices to the car’s on-board computer. It is noted that almost all necessary equipment is legally sold on the Internet.
Unable to cope with the onslaught of organized crime, Canadian authorities recommend that citizens take care of the safety of their own cars. The recipes are still the same: park in a garage or a well-lit place and do not forget to install a steering lock. There is still a little more fuss with hardware than with electronics.
