What happened to the girl who gave birth at the age of five (9 photos)
What do children do at five years old? They go to kindergarten, are capricious, endlessly ask questions, play catch-up with their peers and games with the help of dolls. But Lina Medina, at this age, was forced to become a real mother...
The entire civilized world was shocked by the story of a little girl who gave birth at an age when it is not even supposed that it is possible to get pregnant, carry and give birth to a baby - 5 years and seven months. Medina's family was the most ordinary and there had never been anything like this. But let's find out a little more about Lina Medina.
Victoria Losa and Tiburcio
There is no guaranteed confirmed information about when and where Lina was born. Most often they are called Ticrapo, Antacancha and Pauranga, from which it is concluded that Lina was born in Peru. There are also questions about the date: it is either September 9, 23 or 27, 1933.
Medina's family was large - Lina had eight more sisters and brothers, which is a completely standard situation in Peru. The girl's father, Tiburcio, made the jewelry himself, and her mother, Victoria Losa, took over the housework and activities with the children. Everything was the same as in many Peruvian families until mom and dad noticed that their five-year-old daughter’s belly was starting to grow.
Lina never said that she had any pain or that she felt somehow strange. But the belly was growing and this was clearly not a consequence of ordinary bloating. Victoria and Tiburcio were seriously scared and decided that their baby might have a tumor. They needed a doctor, but in the town where they lived there weren’t even medical centers, let alone hospitals. Lina and her dad went to the city of Pisco.
In the city, a shocked father learned that the cause of his daughter’s strange condition was not a fatal tumor, but... pregnancy. The doctor who examined Lina was no less shocked, because this was the first time such a case had happened in his practice. The gestation period was already long - 7 months.
The parents gave their consent and Gerardo Lozada, a doctor, transported the girl to Lima to conduct additional examinations and accurately confirm the pregnancy.
A month and a half later, on May 14, 1939, Lina Medina underwent a planned caesarean section - Gerardo Alexandro Medina was born, weighing 2.7 kg.
The surgeons who performed the operation discovered a fully formed reproductive system in Lina’s body, which indicated very early puberty. Otherwise, pregnancy simply could not happen.
Lina began menstruating at the age of three, by the age of four her breasts had formed, and by the age of five her pelvis was expanded and her bones had matured prematurely. Doctors concluded that such premature maturation was caused by a disorder of the hormonal function of the pituitary gland.
Doctor of Medicine Kurt Wiener expressed the opinion that Lina Medina had a very rare genetic disease - McCune-Albright syndrome. In addition to early puberty, Lina had age spots and bone changes characteristic of the syndrome.
However, no early physiological development should be a reason to have sex with a five-year-old child. After all, morally and emotionally she remained very small. But who was the baby's father?
Lina could not give an intelligible answer to this question. But, as we know, the virgin birth exists exclusively in the world of fantasy, and Lina gave birth in the real world. A criminal case was opened in the case of Lina Medina and, first of all, the girl’s father and her older brother were arrested, suspecting them of incest. But they were soon completely acquitted except for the evidence. One can only guess who exactly abused the child.
Lina with her son
When Lina and her son were discharged from the hospital, her parents took up raising Gerardo, and even the young mother herself. Until the age of nine, Gerardo considered Lina his sister and learned the truth much later. Dr. Gerardo Losada continued to monitor the fate of his unique ward and thanks to his care, in 1952, thanks to his participation, Lina was able to move to Lima, where she studiedgraphic designer. For some time, the girl worked in the doctor’s clinic, and her son lived with his family until the doctor died in 1960.

In 1966, the business of the Losada clinic ceased to exist and Lina began working at the factory. There she met her future husband, Raul Jurado. At 38, the world's youngest mother became pregnant again and gave birth to her second son.
In general, early motherhood did not bring anything to Lina Medina’s life except worldwide fame. The woman's life was quite ordinary.
Her firstborn at one time lived in the family of Dr. Losada and also wanted to become a doctor. But after the death of his benefactor, Gerardo was unable to continue his studies and at first worked as a courier, at the same time he began to drink a lot, then tried to sell books, but went broke.
In 1979, Gerardo Medina died of cancer.
Lina Medina outlived her firstborn by almost 40 years and died in November 2015.
