Cartoons, intended primarily for children, usually teach the younger generation the good and the bright, clearly separating the positive characters from the negative ones. Moreover, this concept was adhered to by both Soviet animators and their colleagues from Western countries. However, some of the “bad guys” were so colorful and charismatic that they still sank into the souls of many young viewers.

We remember the “bad guys” from cartoons that many of us actually sympathized with

1. Tom

"Tom and Jerry"

The main cat, a cartoon villain, known to post-Soviet viewers since the 1980s from sessions in video salons, in fact evoked only pity and sympathy in many post-Soviet children, since for the most part he was raked undeservedly. But the little dirty trickster and provocateur, Jerry the mouse, always got away with it.

2. Shredder

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"

Perhaps, all of us in the 90s watched on the 2x2 channel the adaptation of comic books based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into the animated series of the same name. One of the main antagonists of the main characters of the Turtles and their teacher Splinter was Shredder (his real name, by the way, is Oroku Saki). He was also a ninja and in his youth studied with Splinter in the same monastery, but later joined the side of evil after becoming acquainted with Krang, a brain-like creature from Dimension X.

Shredder is smart, a born leader by nature, and is also fluent in oriental martial arts - which is not an example to follow for the boys of the dashing 90s.

3. Brothers Gavs

"DuckTales"

One of the main enemies of the billionaire Scrooge McDuck, the Gavs brothers led by mother Gavs, of whom there are at least a dozen, differ in height, character, and intelligence, but they are all united by the desire to dishonestly earn money and rob McDuck's vault. In an era of romanticization of crime and prison, and general poverty in some countries, they were “their” guys and even, in a way, Robin Hoods.

4. Fat belly

"Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers"

Cartoon frame

An overweight striped aristocrat cat, a mediocre crime boss with several henchmen, owns his own casino and engages in various thefts and scams when the Rescue squad is not spoiling his cards. Well, who among the kids of the 90s didn’t dream of becoming such a bandit and wearing a crimson jacket with a bunch of “greens” in his pockets?

5. Wolf

"Wait for it!"

Cartoon frame

In this socialist clone of "Tom and Jerry", unlike the good boy Hare, the Wolf was a malicious bully and a bully, and constantly hunted the Hare, who did not seem to do anything bad to him. In addition, the Wolf is prone to parasitism and bad habits, essentially representing a collective image of all the worker-peasant punks and youth of the USSR and the 90s. It is not surprising that this character was cute and close to many post-Soviet children, as well as their older brothers and dads.

6. Duke Ikthorn

"The Adventures of the Gummi Bears"

Duke Ichorn was once a knight of Dunwyn Castle, but was apparently exiled from it after attempting to overthrow the aging King Gregor. Then Ikthorn settled in the nearby castle of Drekmor and became the leader of the goblins. He harbors a grudge against people and dreams of conquering Danwyn at any cost.

He is distinguished by intelligence, strength, but at the same time cunning and deceit. But still, Sigmund (yes, that’s Iktorna’s name) knows how to keep his word even in relation to enemies, which he considers to be Gummi bears.

7. Helga Pataki

"Hey, Arnold!"

Cartoon frame

The cocky 9-year-old girl in a pink dress with golden hair and a unibrow from the Nickelodeon cartoon insulted and beat most of her peers and was an inveterate cynic. Butif you dig deeper, you can understand that the psychological problems in the family are to blame for everything due to the underestimation of her parents - an assertive businessman father and an absent-minded housewife mother who abuses alcohol, who gave preference to her older sister, smart and beautiful Olga. Behind the screen, Helga carefully hides her vulnerable soul.
