The incident occurred in a family of remote workers from Houston. Husband and wife work in different companies, but in the same house. Therefore, it is not surprising that a husband named Tyler overheard the conversation of his wife, a top manager at the oil and gas company BP, when she was discussing the takeover of the British company TravelCenters of America over the phone. The woman didn’t even think about discussing corporate secrets in a secluded place - no secrets from her own husband. Business Insider reports this. 
Undeterred, the man immediately bought 46,450 shares of TravelCenters of America without his wife’s knowledge. After the oil and gas giant took over the company, Tyler sold all the shares and gained $1.76 million, the SEC said. The profit percentage was 71%.
BP realized there was a leak and began an investigation. The man confessed everything to his wife, and she told management. In court, Tyler said that he did not like that his wife worked so much.
The man's wish came true; his wife no longer works at BP - she was fired. She divorced her husband. He was still trying to reconcile, but the woman was not ready to forgive him. The man faces a fine and a ban on holding certain positions.
