Eyes are the mirror of the soul. They can reflect a variety of feelings and emotions. Or complete darkness reigns. For many, although this is not visually visible, numbers can jump in their pupils: this is how their owners actively calculate the profits from profitable and not so profitable business.





And in this man’s eyes the numbers in his eyes were not hypothetical, but quite real. And they turned out to be so noticeable that in the 30s they even devoted several articles to him in the British press.



Harold Maconaghy of Scranton, Pennsylvania, looked like a completely normal ten-year-old child. But that is until you look him straight in the eye. An episode in the television series “Believe it or not!” was dedicated to the owner of the unusual watch-eye. Roberta Ripley.





The clock-eyed boy Maconaghy became a local star after the publications. And he was happy to show off his eyes to everyone. Taking advantage of the boy's fame, the local optician invited him as a promoter to increase eyewear sales. “Come and bring your children,” the sign read. “We invite doctors to study this phenomenon.”



Naturally, as is the case with many other Ripley finds, skeptics also expressed their disbelief. They set out to prove that the boy is a fake. But, as a 1930 article noted, “they failed again.” A photograph of Harold confirmed that his eyes looked as they were depicted in the publication.

Despite the anomaly of the hour-eyed boy, he had excellent vision.



Although for that period of time the physiological feature of young Harold did look fascinating and wonderful, with a high degree of probability in his case there was one of the forms of heterochromia. It is a pathology that is expressed as different colors of different parts of the iris of one eye. It is the result of a relative excess or deficiency of melanin.
