King Charles III of Great Britain was diagnosed with cancer (2 photos)
Some of his public duties will now be performed by his son Prince William.
British media report that King Charles III has cancer. Doctors discovered a malignant tumor during the monarch’s hospitalization due to an enlarged prostate back in mid-January. The type of cancer has not been determined, but a Buckingham Palace statement said Charles III had already begun treatment.
"His Majesty today began his regular treatment, during which doctors have advised him to postpone his public duties. During this period, His Majesty will continue to carry out government affairs and official paperwork as normal," the palace said.
It is noted that after consultations with doctors, the king was satisfied with his treatment plan and hopes to return to full public activity as soon as possible.
It is reported that the monarch’s eldest son, Prince William, has already arrived from the United States, who will take on some of his father’s public responsibilities. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, with whom Charles III will now be able to hold weekly meetings only remotely, said he was shocked by the monarch's diagnosis and expressed hope that he would recover soon, since the disease was detected at an early stage.
We add that 75-year-old Charles III ascended the throne just a year and a half ago - on September 8, 2022.
