In Russia, people staged a stampede over discounted sugar
When all the sugar was snapped up, a huge line stood waiting for more to be brought.
In one of the supermarkets in Rybinsk they sold sugar at a discount - for $0.38. People in the supermarket rushed to the sugar counter and snapped it up in a matter of minutes. At the same time, buyers jostled and quarreled with each other. One of the buyers told reporters that people were grabbing whole packs of sugar.
Despite the fact that only 10 kilograms could be taken in one hand, people loaded up their carts, but at the checkout they were not given that amount. They asked others to buy for them beyond the limit. The lines at the checkout were wild. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” said a resident of Rybinsk.
It got to the point that the bags of sugar were torn, people sprinkled it all over them, but did not stop trying to buy as much as possible.
On social media, shoppers said people snapped up the sugar within minutes. Those who didn’t have time stood in line for a long time and waited for more sugar to be brought.
