Severe winter weather hit the United States this week, with its share of casualties.
Cold, snow and ice have made life hell for millions of ordinary Americans. Many schools were closed, and downed wires left thousands of homes without electricity.
In Oregon, the governor declared a state of emergency, and the website Poweroutage.us, which tracks outages across the country, registered 75,000 users without access to electricity as of Friday evening.
In Tennessee, the health department reported 14 deaths due to hypothermia.

Five women died in a car crash in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, police said.

Also in Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear said five people died due to severe weather. In Oregon, three people were electrocuted by downed wires, according to the Portland Fire Department.

Deaths due to severe weather have been reported in Illinois, Kansas, New Hampshire, New York, Wisconsin and Washington.

According to Flightaware.com, 1,100 flights were canceled and another eight thousand were delayed. In some regions of the country, cold weather is expected to continue into the weekend.
