One of the world's most depraved serial killers, dubbed the "Brooklyn Vampire", boasted that he had raped or eaten a child in every state in America. Albert Fish confessed to the brutal murder of more than 100 children before being executed by electric chair on January 16, 1936, at the age of 65.

Fish was suspected of at least ten murders and admitted to stabbing two people. However, due to a lack of evidence, it is unknown whether his testimony was true.

To date, there are only three confirmed murders.

Albert Fish was nicknamed the "Vampire of Brooklyn" because he killed and ate his victims.

Also known as "The Gray Ghost", "The Werewolf of Wisteria", "The Moon Maniac" and "The Boogeyman", Fish was a child molester and cannibal.

The pervert often ate his captives after torture, and his victims were small children.

A doll's wig, women's shoes, and a man's suit and tie were found near the abandoned Westchester house where Fish killed 10-year-old Grace Budd.

The murder of 10-year-old Grace Budd became a high-profile case, for which Fish was detained in 1934. After his guilt was proven, the 65-year-old American was executed by electric chair on January 16, 1936.

This brought an end to decades of cold-blooded murder.

Grace - Phish's most famous victim

Fish was born in Washington, D.C., in 1870, the son of Randall Fish and Ellen Frances Howell. At the time of his son’s birth, the father was 75 years old, the mother was 32. The boy was the youngest of four brothers and sisters. Many members of his family had mental disorders.

The head of the family died when Albert was 5 years old. The mother sent the children to a shelter, where they were beaten. The boy discovered in himself a love of pain, which determined his future atrocities.

“I was there until I was almost nine years old. We were whipped mercilessly,” Fish later recalled. “I saw the boys do a lot of things that they shouldn’t have done.”

He began to enjoy punishment and associate it with pleasure, which later developed into sexual satisfaction.

When his mother took him from the orphanage in 1880, the child was already spoiled. Two years later, he entered into an unhealthy relationship with a slightly older boy and began practicing coprophagy (eating excrement).

Fish began visiting public baths, where he spied on naked vacationers and engaged in prostitution.

By a strange coincidence, Fish got married in 1898, and his wife bore him six children.

In 1910, while working as a painter in Delaware, Albert met Thomas Kedden. He soon lured Kedden to an abandoned house and tortured him for two weeks.

Fish mutilated Thomas' body, cut off half of his penis, and then disappeared.

“I will never forget his scream and the look he gave me,” the psychopath admitted.

In 1917, his wife left Fish. He became increasingly fixated on self-harm: sticking needles into his groin, inserting cotton wool soaked in lighter fluid into his anus, and then setting it on fire.

He taught children strange sadomasochistic games, and then invited them to share a meal of raw meat with him.

By 1919, Fish began looking for mentally retarded orphans and homeless black teenagers. Such people, he believed, would not be looked for.

Detectives found the remains of Grace Budd

He looked at local newspaper advertisements for young people looking for work, or families looking for help at home.

This is how he found his most famous victim, Grace Budd. In fact, Fish became interested in her older brother, who was looking for work on a farm or in the countryside.

When Fish showed up at the family home to "hire" Edward Budd, his interestswitched to the girl. The killer convinced the parents to let the child go with him to celebrate his niece’s birthday. The girl left and did not return.

Seven years later, Grace Budd's parents received an anonymous letter, which subsequently led the police to Fish.

The maniac admitted that he brought the child to an empty house in Westchester, where he killed him.

"How she kicked, bit and tore! I strangled her and then cut out the soft parts to take to my rooms. Cook and eat. It took me 9 days to completely eat her meat," Fish wrote.

By that time, two more children had disappeared - 4-year-old Billy Gaffney and 8-year-old Francis McDonnell. Francis's body was found in a thicket of woods not far from the place where a neighbor saw the old man taking the boy with him. The child was raped and strangled with his braces.

To the surprise of the police, Fish instantly confessed. He told how he brutally killed Billy and then drank his blood. The maniac admitted that he wanted to dismember Francis' body, but he was scared off, so he fled the crime scene.

At trial, the defense argued that Fish was insane, but the jury found him “a psychopathic person without psychosis.”

Before his death, the "Brooklyn Vampire" was allowed to write notes about his crimes so that reporters would cover this terrible case in more detail.
