The male greater sage grouse is a large bird with colorful plumage. Its head and neck are black, with a white throat and yellow brow ridges. The chest and belly are white, and the back and wings are brown with white spots.
At the mating site, males begin mating when it is still dark. They inflate their throat sacs, which become like balls, and make loud sounds similar to grunting. They also flap their wings and tail to attract the attention of females.
Females come to the mating site to choose a male. They evaluate its size, shape, plumage color and tokat strength. The female who has chosen the male sits next to him and they begin to build a nest.
Showing games of sage grouse are an important stage in their lives. They allow males to attract the attention of females and continue their lineage.
