For children, a mother is support, protection, the whole world. But it also happens that very young children, demonstrating miracles of courage, stand up to protect their mother from real monsters, not imaginary ones. And they win.





Rachel Moore and Daryl Fields were an ordinary married couple living in rural Chambers Flat, near Logan, Australia. By 2012, their family had three boys and two girls growing up. The three older children were born from the woman’s first husband, whom she left because of assault.

Rachel gave up on her personal life, living only in the interests of her children. But Daryl was able to melt her heart, convincing her that happiness is possible. The man accepted Rachel’s children, and the couple had two more in common. Kylie, Cameron, Jayden, Zane and Samantha delighted their parents. The older ones - good studies and decent results in acting, the circle they attended. Rachel looked after the kids, and on weekends the whole family went to the coast.

But Daryl began to change. At first, the husband showed cold behavior and discontent, but then this developed into pathological jealousy, threats and assault. The woman, who already had sad experience of such relationships, immediately gathered her children and left.

But the threats continued. Fields continued to write to the woman who found the strength to break off the relationship and file for divorce, called and threatened. But she did not imagine what these threats would lead to, hoping that her ex-husband would calm down and leave them alone.

On April 11, 2014, in a state of severe intoxication, Daryl arrived at the home of his former family in Cleveland, burst inside and told a stunned Rachel that he was done with everything at once. The half-crazed man had a shotgun in his hands.

The children, taking advantage of the confusion, hid on the second floor of the house. But when they heard screams, they rushed to help their mother, begging their father to leave the house. The screams had no effect on him. And he calmly shot the woman in the hand, with which Rachel instinctively covered herself. She miraculously remained alive, but lost consciousness from pain and shock. But while the attacker was reloading the gun, children attacked him. Acting as one coherent team.

They hid the kids - 4-year-old Zane and Samantha, who was barely 2 years old - under the bed, ordering them to sit quietly. Jayden, 14, kicked his stepfather as hard as he could in the stomach and put him in a choke hold as he bent over. Cameron, 12, pounced and grabbed the man's gun, running headlong out of the room to hide the weapon. Fields was not going to give up and reached out to his ex-wife, grabbing her leg. But Jayden pushed the man again, he fell and lost consciousness from the blow.

10-year-old Kylie found the strength to drag an adult woman outside and hide her in the bushes. The girl bandaged her mother’s wounds as best she could and called an ambulance. While his sister was babysitting his mother, Cameron ran up and down the driveway waiting for the police and paramedics so as not to miss their arrival, and constantly visited the shelter to check on his mother.

In the 60 Minutes program, which was filmed about this wonderful story, Cameron said that he was well aware that what happened could be the end for the whole family. Perhaps for brothers and sisters too. But the body acted separately from the mind, doing everything possible to save the family and mother.

Rachel has undergone 15 surgeries and countless skin grafts. The question of amputating the arm was even raised, but doctors were able to save it. And if not for the timely actions of her daughter, the woman could have died from loss of blood before the doctors arrived.

She said that she periodically came to her senses and felt small hands trying tocould, and the realization of this simply tore her heart.

Fields was arrested and charged with attempted murder and other offenses including breaching a domestic violence order and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Although the man did not admit to all the charges, he will not be released very soon.



Family

Alcohol, anger and jealousy are terrible things. Moore was convinced of this on that fateful night, which became a new starting point for their family. The guys’ training, which gave them good skills, also played a certain role.



A year after the tragedy

But the most important thing, of course, was the upbringing, which showed that Rachel did a tremendous job as a mother if she managed to raise such brave and loving children.
