TOP 10 most failed TV series of 2023 from Metacritic (10 photos)
We recently made the TOP 10 coolest TV series of 2023 according to IMDb and Netflix. And last Friday we received the same list from Kinopoisk. Well, we already had the best ones. So it's time to remember the worst! So, review aggregator Metacritic also summed up the year, preparing its TOP 10 most failed TV series of 2023.
The ranking was carried out by the Metascore system based on film critics’ ratings, where the maximum score is 100.
10th place. "City on Fire"
Score: 45
A crime drama about a girl from a wealthy family who shot herself, a string of strange fires and other unsolved secrets of the city. Critic Shane Ryan described his impressions this way:
The acting is terrible and formulaic, but I don't want to pick on anyone in particular because the writing is so bad that I'm not sure the actors had a chance.
9th place. "Queen Cleopatra"
Score: 45
Netflix's attempt to make a historical series about the Queen of Egypt was a complete failure, violating the principles of historicity and causing scandals in the press.
8th place. "Knights of Gotham"
Rating: 41
The series is not related to the game of the same name except for the general setting, but takes its base from the DC comic of the same name. A critic from IGN shared his opinion:
With the sole exception of Misha Collins (as Harvey Dent), each character manages to be bland and uninteresting. The cryptic plot and sparse action scenes do little to capitalize on the rich palette of the Batman mythos.
7th place. "Wolf Pack"
Score: 40
Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1977-2003), wasn't enough to make the supernatural series interesting.
6th place. "Insanity" ("Obsession")
Score: 37
The remake of the acclaimed film Damage (1992) greatly disappointed viewers and critics.
5th place. "All the light we cannot see"
The series is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, but according to Time's critic, the series is not just inferior to the book:
It's a sentimental, incompetent, offensive mess whose very existence tarnishes the book's legacy.
4th place. "John Carpenter's Suburban Screams"
Score: 30
The mini-series was directed by 1980s horror master John Carpenter. Jarrod Jones of The A.V. Club, which publishes critical articles, called the project "a bunch of insipid fears."
3rd place. "The Price of Rejoicing"
Score: 28
A documentary about the TV series Glee (2009-2015), which, according to CNN's Brian Lowry, "doesn't do any good for viewers because of its 'unsavory' handling of the tragedy" (three of its star actors died under various circumstances, which was called "curse" of the series).
2nd place. "Idol"
Rating: 27
The series was such a failure that critics didn’t even like the music (in a series about a pop star starring Grammy winner The Weeknd!).
1 place. "Milf Mansion"
Rating: 16
A critic from The New Yorker called it "a new low for reality television." The essence of the series is for single women from 40 to 60 living in the same villa to find a much younger man. But the catch is that younger men are their own sons! We will probably refrain from further comments.
