A terrifying video of what the lungs of a smoker with 20 years of experience look like (2 photos + 2 videos)

Earlier this year, the UK government announced a new anti-smoking plan. Starting in 2027, the age at which you can buy cigarettes will increase by one year. Thus, those who are now 14 years old will never be able to buy cigarettes legally. However, another quite effective way to get people to give up cigarettes is to show a scary video.







The video, filmed in 2018 by a nurse named Amanda Eller from North Carolina (USA), shows healthy lungs damaged by years of smoking.



In the footage, a woman shows how the blackened lungs function, explaining: "These are the lungs of a person with COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease], they are affected by cancer. They have lost their elasticity. When you inhale they stretch, but when you exhale they collapse, there is nothing that can help keep them open."

Then she moves on to the healthy lungs: “Inhale, exhale. They deflate completely and return to their original position.”
