A cruel mafioso, a sexist, a cocaine dealer, an impotent and at the same time a libertine who seduces women, an ignorant brute and a bad family man - this is how the 77-year-old “godfather” Laureano Ubin was portrayed in the TV series Fariña - “Cocaine”. And he didn't like it very much.

"Godfather of drug traffickers" Laureano Ubina, who was released in 2017 after 22 years in prison, complained that the TV series "Cocaine Coast" portrayed him as a violent drug dealer and impotent. Ubina wants to sue Netflix for 1.5 million euros as moral damages, writes BILD.

Mr. Laureano Ubina's life has deteriorated significantly since the broadcast of this series because it portrays him as a violent mafioso, sexist, cocaine dealer, impotent, lecher, traitor, bad father, bad husband, rude, stupid, vengeful, seducing women and ignorant, said his lawyer, Jorge Paladino.

Fariña is produced by Netflix, Bamboo and A3 Media. According to Ubin, the series tarnishes his image and violates privacy laws. The defendants insist that there is a lot of fiction in the show and this is indicated in the credits, and also urge the court not to side with the plaintiff, because this would mean the introduction of censorship.

This isn't the first time that Netflix has been hit by real-life criminals. Thus, in August 2022, Mexican drug lord Sandra Avila Beltran sued Netflix and the Spanish company Telemundo for using her image to advertise the series “Queen of the South” without her consent. She demanded 40% of all the revenue the companies earned during the show's 11-year run.

In addition, in 2016, Pablo Escobar's brother Roberto demanded $1 billion from Netflix as a percentage of revenue for the series Narcos.

A year later, a Netflix crew member was killed in Mexico.

“Cocaine Coast” is a series about the life of drug trafficking clans in the Spanish region of Galicia. It first aired in 2018 and was watched by 2.5 million people in Spain alone. “Cocaine Coast” also tells the story of Laureano Ubin, who was considered the largest transporter of hashish among Galician drug traffickers.
