Unusual and interesting insects of our world (10 photos)
Insects are creatures that most people are wary of. At most, they can take a closer look at some firefly or ladybug.
And in vain. Indeed, among them there are truly outstanding, unusual and even beautiful creatures that deserve careful consideration.
Nipper
Giant water bugs - belostomadites - can bite quite noticeably. Nature has endowed them with a respectable size (up to 10 cm) and impressive claws. They attack quickly, small animals don’t even have time to come to their senses. And they inject a special liquid into the prey, which turns the victim into a nutrient mixture, which the bug happily feeds on for some time.
Titanium
The titan lumberjack beetle is literally the titan of the insect world. It is considered the largest beetle on the planet and can reach 15 centimeters. The powerful jaws of the tropical dweller easily bite through twigs as thick as a pencil. Despite its terrifying appearance, the beetle does not pose a threat to people. But it can bite, however, having previously warned about the need not to approach with the help of a specific whistle.
Headless
At a quick glance, it may seem that leafhoppers lack this important organ. But in reality, insects have a head. And it’s very functional: with its help, leafhoppers harm plants by sucking out the juice.
Stick, stick and stick
The Australian stick insect is very similar to a branch. Nature gave this specific appearance to the insect due to the constant need to be on trees, namely eucalyptus trees, the leaves of which form the basis of the stick insects’ diet. For high-quality adhesion to the bark, they have special hook-shaped claws on their paws.
Nosy
Upon closer inspection, the weevil is the cutest cartoon creature, which received its name due to such an outstanding organ. Despite their cuteness, weevils are pests and feed on almost all parts of plants, destroying crops.
Strange grasshopper
The giant weta is a common species in New Zealand. One of the largest (7-10 cm) insects in the world has an interesting physiological feature: weetas do not have lungs, so they use special openings in their body to breathe.
False hummingbird
Outwardly, this creature is very similar to a hummingbird. But in reality, the common tongue is a butterfly that borrowed its appearance, methods of movement, feeding and even communication from miniature birds.
Hercules
Another representative of the giants is the Hercules beetle. The males of this species, which lives in tropical forests, in addition to a large body, can boast of having a long horn and incredible strength: the beetles are capable of lifting a weight hundreds of times greater than their own.
Light Scorpion
This creature - the scorpion fly or scorpion fly - has a frightening appearance and is very similar to a real scorpion, as the name implies. An additional mysterious flair is given to them by their curved body, long mustache, unusual beak and large eyes.
