On the afternoon of November 17, a non-self-propelled barge "VD-1293" capsized in the waters of Lake Ladoga in the Leningrad Region, reports the North-Western Transport Prosecutor's Office. According to media reports, the barge capsized in the area of the Northern Torpakova Bank, which is located near Cape Storozhensky.
As a result of the emergency, no people were injured and no oil spills were recorded. However, it is known that the barge was carrying 975 tons of equipment for the construction of permanent bridges. Which, apparently, is irretrievably lost.
According to the transport prosecutor's office, the barge capsized due to cargo displacement and a broken towing rope. The supervisory agency is conducting an inspection, following which it promises to take prosecutorial response measures.
