Hobby holes in the real world (12 photos)
The well-maintained burrows of the blessed Shire are the home of a small but very nimble people. Understanding the desire of fans of the universe of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien to take at least one glance at the atmosphere of his books, architects from different countries tried to recreate it.
One of the best projects was the solution of the Swiss studio Vetsch Architektur in the city of Dietikon. Earthen houses - an entire block - are equipped in the most ordinary residential area and are grouped around a small artificial pond.
There are nine such hole-houses in the village. Their facades follow the contours of the natural relief. The area varies from 60 to 200 square meters, and the number of rooms - from three to seven.
In front of each house there is a landscaped courtyard. The bedroom in earthen houses is equipped in the northern part, the living room in the southern part. The bathrooms are in the basement and receive light through skylights in the roof.
The basement and garage (which is also included in the project) are ordinary. And the first floor is reinforced with shotcrete. The insulation of the houses is ensured thanks to a layer of recycled foam glass, and the penetration of moisture into the interior is prevented by the polymer coating.
Hobbit houses are built as harmoniously into the natural landscape as possible and do not look alien against its background. The project manager, architect Peter Vetch, is very proud of this, since the priority remained with nature, and not with human needs, but without compromising them.
The soil layer not only provides a comfortable microclimate and adds completeness, but is also suitable for additional landscaping. There are no sharp corners or lines inside the houses. Everything is rounded and smoothed as much as possible, which gives them a special natural charm and originality and makes them a pleasant vacation spot for ecotourism lovers.
