A police officer smeared paint on an environmental activist and came under investigation
A plainclothes policeman treated climate activists from the Letzte Generation (“Last Generation”) movement rather harshly (by German standards) and was suspended from service. On Tuesday, environmental activists staged another protest in Berlin against the German government, which, in their opinion, is doing nothing to combat climate change.
Armed with orange paint, they began to paint the walls of the office of the German Chancellor with the words “Olaf lies.” The police who arrived at the scene repeatedly pulled the activists away from the building, but with manic obstinacy they again picked up their brushes and continued to damage the building. One of the officers could not stand it and threw the two girls to the ground, after which he took a brush in his hands and smeared paint on the face of one of the protesters.
Initially, it was reported that the man in plainclothes was not a police officer, but specifically introduced himself to them in order to help real law enforcement officers. However, the police later confirmed that it was their employee. After the scandal, he was suspended from work. He is currently being investigated for assault while on duty.
It is noted that a similar action took place in the capital of Austria on Tuesday. However, despite the fact that protesters against the authorities, who are inactive on the threshold of a “climate catastrophe,” completely blocked the center of Vienna, none of the environmental activists were injured.
