A cocker spaniel with six legs was born in the UK. The puppy was named Ariel in honor of the Little Mermaid, as several of his paws resemble a tail.
The Greenacres Rescue at the Ebbs Acres Farm animal shelter in Pembrokeshire posted a post on its social media account about sponsoring a six-legged puppy. Local residents found him in a parking lot next to a store on September 27 and took him to a veterinary clinic.
The examination showed that the dog is healthy and all of its internal organs look normal for its age. Shelter veterinarian Mikey Lawlor told reporters that he had never seen anything like it and did not know what exactly could have caused the defect.
Since the extra legs resemble a mermaid's tail, the puppy was named Ariel in honor of the heroine of the cartoon "The Little Mermaid". Later, in addition to the extra legs, veterinarians discovered the beginnings of an additional vulva in Ariel. Her pelvis was not fully formed due to the extra hip joint.
In a month, when Ariel is older, she will undergo additional examination. Doctors eventually plan to perform surgery to remove the extra paws. They also keep an eye on one of the puppy's back legs because an abnormality could cause it to work poorly in the future and cause him a lot of discomfort. Due to the incorrect structure of the pelvis, this paw can also be amputated.
At the moment, Ariel is not bothered by anything, she moves freely and enjoys life. Veterinarians are confident that despite several potential surgeries, the dog will be able to live a full life. Ariel has already found a temporary home.
