In Italy, a passenger bus fell from an overpass - more than 20 people were killed (5 photos + 1 video)
The accident occurred in Mestre, this is the mainland quarter of Venice, which is connected to the island part by the Liberty Bridge. While descending from it, the driver lost control, and the bus broke through the parapet, and then fell from a height of about 10 meters onto the railway tracks.
As a result of the accident, people died - as reported by La Repubblica, 21 people became victims of the accident, including one child. About 20 more passengers were injured, 5 of them seriously.
The accident occurred yesterday, October 3, at about 20.00. Train traffic along the area where the bus fell was temporarily suspended.
The bus driver died. He was an experienced professional and always took his work seriously. However, passengers who were in that transport say that for some reason the driver did not even try to slow down in front of the overpass. Versions have been put forward that the man became ill while driving, although, of course, a more precise cause of the accident can only be determined after an investigation of the accident.
It is known that the bus ran on methane and caught fire immediately after the fall. Fire brigades were called to the scene of the accident.
The bus was not a regular bus, it was rented out. The last time the transport was rented for its guests was the Jolly campsite in Marghera; and among the passengers there were tourists of different nationalities, some of them had Ukrainian passports. The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, spoke about this.
After the accident, mourning was declared in Venice.
