Instead of a nursing home, a couple from Australia went on a cruise because it was cheaper (5 photos + 1 video)

An elderly couple, after a long period of isolation due to Covid, set off on a trip and have since spent more than 450 days on sea cruises.

Marty and Jess Ansen departed on their first cruise on June 16, 2022. The couple calculated that sailing around the world would cost them less than paying for a nursing home. In addition, large liners have everything a retiree might need: delicious food, a doctor and a lot of entertainment. And there are maids who are ready to change bed linen upon request and bring food from the restaurant if you suddenly want to dine in the cabin.

Isn't this a heavenly life, given the various impressions from stops in picturesque places on the planet?

“Now we don’t have to wash the dishes or make the bed anymore,” Marty says with delight. They start each day with a game of ping pong and enjoy opening a couple of beers to sit on the balcony and admire the views. The couple enjoys learning new hobbies: for example, Jess does ballroom dancing and hula dancing, and Marty just makes new friends.

The couple spent more than 450 days aboard Princess Cruises' Coral Princess, longer than most of the crew, including the captains. The Australians won't stop there - they expect to stay on board the ship for two years. All you need to do is just book a few more cruises.

For the ship's crew, they have become a real family, and the captain of the ship, as well as the stewards and everyone who works on the Coral Princess liner, are happy to welcome the pensioners every time they go on a new cruise.

“Everyone knows them on the ship, they are essentially celebrities on board,” said ship manager Ren van Rooyen. And if you want to see your family, you can do this via video link and when the liner enters a port located not far from your home.

By the way, these pensioners are not the only ones who decided to spend the rest of their lives on sea cruises. Richard and Angeline Burke of Seattle, Washington worked their entire lives, saved and saved to enjoy a luxurious vacation in retirement. By May 2021, they quit their jobs, sold their house and set sail with two suitcases between them. So far the couple has no plans to settle somewhere and live on land.

They plan one cruise after another, calculating that a stay on a luxury ship costs $89 a day for two, which is much less than paying a mortgage on a house. In addition, a lot of services are included in the price of the cruise, so you can enjoy life and not think about the need to cook food, clean the room, do laundry and other household chores. “This is a leisurely trip without the hassle of booking hotels, restaurants and transportation, but within our budget. Where else can you find a resort that transports you to different countries while you relax by the pool or sleep in a comfortable bed?” - the spouses notice.
