A resident of a British town, Michael Thomas, decided to rebuild an abandoned pizzeria building into a residential building - but the local council prohibited him from carrying out the work. Then the man decided to take extraordinary revenge on the head of the council.

A 71-year-old resident of the British city of Trowbridge named Michael Thomas decided to rebuild an abandoned pizzeria building into a residential house with seven bedrooms. However, local authorities demanded that construction be stopped. The head of the city council, Stuart Palmen, strongly opposed the project and issued a ban on the work. Then Thomas decided to take revenge on the official - and installed his stone head ("gargoyle") on the corner of that very building.

Mr. Thomas filed two appeals, hoping that the decision would be reviewed. But the authorities were adamant, and time after time he was refused, declaring that the converted building would “ruin the appearance of the area.” First, the man staged a protest by attaching a banner with objections to the building's scaffolding, and only then decided on a stone statue of the head of the council.

"The council is actively investing in green space and long-term developers outside Trowbridge, making a handsome profit. However, it is going against developers of smaller town buildings who are trying to meet the housing needs of those who cannot afford expensive out-of-town housing," - Thomas writes on the banner.

In June, Mr. Thomas said he was even willing to go to jail over the dispute. According to him, local authorities “do not follow the rules, but create them as they go along.” He intends to continue remodeling the building no matter what.

"I will continue construction against their orders, let them sue me. I am not afraid of going to prison - I have already been sent to prison twice. Our modern prisons have toilets and even televisions, so I don’t think it will be hard for me there, " says Thomas.

Thomas is scheduled to appear in court on October 27. He is accused of failing to comply with a notice to stop construction. The man, meanwhile, plans to file another appeal.
