Danny Trejo admits he hasn't drunk alcohol in 55 years (9 photos)
Action legend Danny Trejo celebrates a milestone achievement. "By By the grace of God, today is 55 years since I am clean and sober!” wrote the 79-year-old actor, known for the films "From Dusk Till Dawn", "Machete" and many more others. 
“I make this choice day after day, and everyone who struggles with this problem can too!” Trejo summed up.
Thousands of fans of the "Mexican superhero" rushed congratulate him on remaining true to his choice ever since Richard Nixon at the White House.
"I take off my hat, I've been sober and clean for 8 years, I overcome life's difficulties day by day. May your journey bring you 55 more years of sobriety and clean victories,” reads one of the comments.
"Just started my sober journey, Danny. Congratulations on your this, brother, and thank you for inspiring me to keep determination," said another. 
Danny Trejo tried marijuana at the age of eight I started drinking alcohol at the age of twelve. As a teenager, he switched to heroin and even engaged in its distribution. 
In his autobiographical memoir Danny Trejo. Crime, Redemption and Hollywood," the actor candidly spoke about how he spent a total of eleven years in prison, about his transformational journey, about being raised in a Mexican-American family, about developing an acting career along with mastering the culinary arts. 
Before entering the restaurant business by opening Trejo's Tacos and Trejo's Coffee & Donuts, and launch your own record label Trejo's Music, a native of Los Angeles managed to experience many horrors. 
In 1969, 24-year-old Trejo began attending meetings of anonymous alcoholics at San Quentin Prison in California. He was arrested at selling heroin to an undercover cop.
"They say if you leave Alcoholics Anonymous or drug addicts, you will die, go crazy or go to jail, - said actor in an interview with Variety in 2019. And I have proven that it is. Every time I left, I ended up in jail." 
In 1961, while 17-year-old Trejo was serving time in prison, he accidentally met Charles Manson, one of the most famous American criminals in history. He taught him and other prisoners meditation technique that, according to Manson, led to a state of euphoria without the need for drugs. Trejo confirmed, that this method really worked. 
After Danny began to lead a sober life, he moved to work as a drug addiction counselor. He helped others overcome debilitating addictions and did not go astray the right way.
The actor sincerely believes that it was the support of loved ones and like-minded people that saved him. 
Trejo got his first role thanks to the work drug addiction counselor. He came to film studio to help the assistant. At this time, filming was taking place in the pavilion movie Runaway Train. As a result, director Andrei Konchalovsky suggested Danny to play a boxer for a daily fee of $320.
