Books with codes and secrets for games on Dendy and Sega: cheating and saving nerves for children of the 90s (11 photos)
They really helped a lot of gamers in the 90s to simplify the passage of a particular game. Although we sometimes met rather absurd secrets.
Today I would like to remember the good old books with codes, secrets and tips for games on consoles Dendy and Sega Mega drive 2.
Number of games
Books with secrets and passwords included the most varied number of games. In one book. for example, could contain 112 games, another contains 555 games, and a third contains 7,000 games (more precisely not games, but more on that later).
But if 555 games could still be understood, then 7000 looked a very absurd figure, since so many games on the console Dendy just didn't exist.
But why so many games? The thing is that the creators of these books used about the same cunning scheme as in the case of cartridge "9999 games in 1". That is, there were many times fewer games, but there included a variety of pirate hacks. Therefore, the book could for example, games such as "Joe and Mac" and "Super Mario" are present 16". Although, of course, we all know that "Super Mario 16" is nothing more than the pirate hack of the game "Joe and mac".
The same applies to the game "Monster in my pocket" and its pirated version "Batman and Flash".
Also, as you also probably know, many games had different names and minor differences depending on the region. Take at least the game "Shadow of the ninja". This is the name given to the American version of the game, while the Japanese version was called "Kage" and the European version "Blue shadow".
Or you can remember the game "Ghosts'n goblins", which is also could be found under the names "Makaimura" or "Ghostly village" .
And of course, it included a variety of pirate ports with other game consoles. Take at least such games as "Aladdin", "Super Aladdin" or "The Lion king".
But that's not all. To add mass, cunning the authors of the book shoved the same game 2 times. But in one case the game had the article The, but not in the other. That is, with the letter L we could find the game "Lion king", and the letter T - "The lion king". Although, it was the same game.
In all these cases, the authors simply referred the reader to original. For example, if we go to the same game "Lion King" we could find only the link "Watch the game "The Lion King".
And in fact, it was not 5000, 7000 or 9000 games, and 9000 descriptions and passwords for games. That is, one game could include both passwords and a description with secrets. Tricky move, more that many have seen the huge numbers of 7000, and the rest is not even read, naively believing that we are talking about the number of games.
But it was especially funny to see on the book with codes for Dendy Sego's Sonic or Gorilla Kong from the game "Donkey Kong country" with consoles Super Nintendo.
Content
Basically, in such books we could find passwords from levels, cheat codes (weapons, immortality, etc.), in-game combinations, crown super blows, etc.
But sometimes there were also tips on passing, and very absurd. For example, in one of the books one could see very absurd advice for the game "Ghosts'n goblins", which sounded like like this: "Be careful. Zombies can crawl out right under you. Sami decide how it is easier for you to pass the level - from above or from below".
And of course, it was impossible not to mention some art, or rather the illustrations that were shown opposite some games. Sometimes it seemed that the people who drew the illustrations I haven't seen these games at all. And if the drawings matched game, they looked so absurd that it was even funny.
In general, despite some absurdity, these books are veryeven helped and protected the psyche of fragile children's minds. I even remember that somehow stalled in the game "Another world" on the console "Sega mega drive 2". Well, I couldn’t pass any level, even if you crack. I was tempted to buy a book where I could look up the passwords, but money was a pity for the sake of one game. And none of my friends but me this game didn’t like it, but for some reason it wasn’t in their books.
Then I went to the store and asked them to show me books with passwords for sego games. In one of them (as I remember now "1700 in 1" with image of Donkey Kong) I found the passwords for this game and stupidly remembered without buying books. True, I forgot some of them, but still most of it is in my head. Even now, without looking into Internet, I can immediately name such passwords as TFBB, HTDC, KRFK, LDKD, XDDJ, BRTD and LFCK. More, unfortunately, I do not remember. It's been a long time passed.
Binding
Of course, this is not about all books, but many of them came out in a cheap glued version. So the book fell apart parts as soon as we opened it. And in the end, over time from the book only separate sheets remained, and not all, since many of them disappeared without a trace.
By the way, if you want to plunge back into childhood and play good old 8-bit games you played on "Dendy" then I recommend that you purchase a portable 8-bit SUP console that you can play at home by connecting it to the TV, and somewhere in road. The portable set-top box already contains in its arsenal several hundreds of iconic 8-bit games. And unlike cartridges like "9999 in 1" all games are different. Yes, and old passwords can also be useful to you.
Did you have similar books with passwords and secrets? How often did you use them?
