The dog chasing the beast got stuck inside a tree and eventually turned into a mummy.
This is Staki's dog. She was found by lumberjacks when they cut down a tree and looked inside. Looks creepy. How did she get inside the tree? The dog got stuck in a tree in the 1960s. It happened in the state of Georgia, USA.
In the 80s, lumberjacks cut down a tree and loaded the logs into a truck. When the foreman was conducting an inspection and looked into one of the trunks, then for a moment recoiled in horror. He saw a dog baring its teeth at him!
The head and paws of a mummified dog with bright white teeth are stuck right in the middle of a tree.
Scientists began to study the issue and reconstructed the events.
It was the so-called tree raccoon hound. This breed was bred in the USA specifically for hunting raccoon and opossum.

In this case, the dog chased after someone small, as potential prey was able to escape by squeezing into a narrow hole.
A hunting dog was chasing a squirrel or a small raccoon. Stacks jumped after the animal into the hole in the roots of the tree. The trunk was partially hollow inside. And the dog climbed further up the hollow trunk. climbed, climbed until it got stuck.
Apparently she really wanted to catch up with the prey herself. Because usually these dogs don't behave like that. They are called "woody" not because they climb trees. They usually drive their prey up a tree and after begin to bark loudly, calling for the hunter. This dog acted differently and, alas, it cost him his life.
The dog got stuck at a fairly high altitude, and was also crushed. Her barking was impossible to hear unless the owner accidentally was next to this tree.
The logical question remains - why the dog was mummified. The reason is in specific conditions.
Everything is clear with scavengers - they themselves will not climb into such dangerous place. Yes, and smells are beaten off due to the fact that the air flow directed upward.
As for the small organisms that corrode the bodies after death - they were stopped by tannins. Similar Substances used by taxidermists to preserve a stuffed animal. Body soaked in tannins and turned into a mummy.
So the American Museum of the Southern Forest World received this rare and amazing exhibit.
