VW Beetle turned into a pickup truck based on BMW (11 photos + 1 video)
British tuning studio Jo's Fab Lab showed an interesting project - a pickup truck built from two family cars: the BMW 3 Series in body E46 and VW Beetle. Both cars that formed the basis of the design pickup truck could end up in a landfill. Your BMW 3 Series Wagon the owner of the studio, Joe Riley, once crashed in an accident, flying off the road during rain time. After that, for some time he moved to VW Beetle, which belonged to his wife. However, soon the "Beetle" ordered to live long - due to a faulty thermostat, the engine failed.
Therefore, Riley decided to build one out of two machines, since always dreamed of turning the Beetle into a pickup truck, but was afraid that he would not have enough standard wheelbase size. The BMW chassis, in his opinion, was suitable for project is almost perfect.
At the same time, spare parts from several models. For example, the roof panel was borrowed from Peugeot 206, the front bumper is from the 2014 Porsche Cayman, and the cargo bed built with an eye on the design of the Ford F-150. At the tenth Ford truck generations lent taillights for him. In motion this "cocktail" driven by a BMW inline-six. Interior components are also mostly of Bavarian origin, although the Volkswagen steering wheel is preserved.
According to Joe Riley, to translate an idea into a finished car it took 18 weeks. The pickup truck replaced the deceased BMW as a car for him. every day: the tuner drives it both on business and on trips. The only thing Riley lacks in his own creation, as stated he himself is the cruise control.
