In nature, there are not only crumbs, but also real giants. 
So, one of the largest bats on the planet is about the size of a child, and it is called the maned acerodon. 
True, Acerodon is not as huge as it looks on picture, because photography is often a matter of perspective. But if you remember habitual bats, then Acerodon is really impressive with its dimensions: its wingspan is almost 1.7 meters. These giants live on Philippines, they are considered locally endemic and endangered disappearance. In the 19th century, this species was described for the first time, dividing it into three subspecies. Then about 100 thousand mice lived on the archipelago. Nowadays their number has decreased by about ten times, and one subspecies is already extinct. 
Fortunately, the only harm to people that such mouse, is an indescribable fear. Just imagine what feelings a person experiences if he suddenly sees an acerodon hanging from roofs of the house. But these animals are completely harmless, they feed on figs and leaves. They go in search of food, like all bats, at night, and during the day, the acerodons rest. The female is known to bring one cub, but this species is little studied. Perhaps it is for this reason experts call too ambiguous life expectancy: from 10 to 30 years in the wild. 
The only enemies of giant mice are pythons, eagles, and also people. Everything seems to be clear with pythons and eagles: acerodons for them are food source. However, some Filipinos eat bats, so man also hunts for these unusual creatures. However, all this is not as critically affects the population of bats as deforestation. It is the loss of habitat that has become the main reason for the decline the number of these animals. 
Bats are important to the environment: they control insect population, help disperse seeds, pollinate plants.
