Meet the big dolphin. She's the golden mackerel, she's the mahi-mahi, she is a dolphin fish, or simply "dolphin" in English sources! Let's take a look at some of her names to understand why there are so many of them.

Let's start with the big dory. Well, with the definition the size of the fish was not mistaken, the bulldozer grows in length up to 2 meters and weighs up to 20 kilos. Same here the name mahi-mahi also applies. This name was given to her in Hawaii, and it means "very strong." Despite the solid dimensions, a fish develops a speed of 70 km/ h - it enters in the ten fastest fish on the planet! And now imagine with what power she tears the line when she tries to break free, and you will understand that to describe it in other words than “very strongly" - will not work.

Not all fish grow to a record 200 cm. Most often, the length of the coryphin is not more than 1 meter. But this, you know, is also not so little!

But this does not discourage anglers, on the contrary, it kindles it. Mahi-mahi are being chased fishermen from all over the world. Dolphin lives in tropical and subtropical waters. But there is especially a lot of it in Egypt, Central America, Caribbean and Seychelles. These places organize whole tours to catch a very strong fish.

But there are questions about the name "golden mackerel". Because the scales of a fish in the sun shimmer like gasoline in a puddle - dormouse shines with yellow, blue, green hues. Why the gold color was chosen for the name is absolutely incomprehensible! As for me, the fish also looks very good in blue! By the way, by the color of the scales, you can determine the shelf life of dorado. After death, the mackerel fades very quickly and becomes, rather, silver. The more colorless the fish, the longer it stays on the counter.

So, why is the fish called a dolphin? She is doesn't look like him at all! Here we need to look at how mahi-mahi lives. Despite the fact that mackerel lives in the ocean, she enjoys having a roof over her head. But how to find shelter when you are in open waters? Very simple - swim under the boat! Mackerel happily swims near the ships. As well as Dolphins do it.

But what to do when people not with their vessels? Look for an island in the ocean! Such indeed, they are formed from Sargasso algae. This greenery grows in the coastal zone, but the pieces that have come off go on a free float. The waves are driving piles of them, and in the ocean huge floating islands for the joy of dolphins. Here you have shelter and food: a lot of inhabitants live in algae - small fish, crabs, squid.

But the favorite prey of dolphins is flying fish. mahi mahi no tries to chase her through the air, mackerel makes smarter - she grabs prey immediately after the jump, as soon as it plopped into the water. especially smart mackerels even cooperate with birds. Frigates attack from above, forcing flying fish to land, where the dolphin is waiting for it, which drives unhappy back out of the water. So everyone stays on top. Everything but herself flying fish.

We can say with confidence that the big dolphin, she is mahi-mahi, she is a golden mackerel, she is a dolphin fish quite well deserved their names. Wait, she's got over 50 more names?.. Well, this is material for another article.
