Recently, thousands of people walked the streets of Madrid in Spain, advocating for hunting dogs. Despite the fact that in the country adopted the Animal Welfare Act, hunting dogs are still often subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment in hunting industry.
Massive protests took place in the Spanish capital on February 5 thousands of people took to the streets, including with their pets, demanding strengthen laws to protect hunting dogs. The law in force in the country Animal Protection, adopted in 2003, does not provide adequate protection hunting dogs - in particular the Spanish galgo, which often suffer from abuse in the hunting industry. They are often used in hunting for rabbits and hares in Spain.
But many of these dogs, unfortunately, live in terrible conditions - they are kept in cramped cages, poorly or insufficiently fed, and they are also not provided with medical care. When these dogs are no more needed by hunters, it happens that they throw them out into the street or get rid of them from them in cruel ways. Animal rights groups have long been involved in protection of these dogs, and in recent years, simple residents who want justice.
Protesters marched through the central streets of Madrid. They carried banners and chanted slogans demanding that legislators take measures to protect the galgo, control the conditions of their detention and provide severe penalties for those who mistreat them.
