Why does no one live in the center of Australia? (6 photos)

This is a huge continent. In terms of area - like Europe. But on the mainland there is a huge desert, scorched through by the sun.

The Australian coast has a great climate. Basically everything is there live. The country has a good standard of living, education, pensions and medicine. But there are still few people - compared to its vast territory.

One of the main reasons for low population density is aridity. The lack of water makes life in the center of the mainland practically impossible. But they have a “bonus”: under the state of Queensland is a huge artesian pool with warm drinking water. And periodically it breaks to the surface. By the way, that is why the natives could survive in the desert.

Now wells are being actively drilled in the state and soon there will be no shortage of water.

There are also many legends about agriculture. As previously stated - most of the territory is simply not adapted for this. It is, but there are many fertile areas on the continent and their total territory larger than the square of France.

So there is enough for agriculture - even in excess. Approximately 70% of all grown goods are exported.

They also talk about aggressive fauna. Allegedly deep into the mainland inhabited by aggressive, poisonous and dangerous creatures, so there nobody climbs. Partly yes. At least that's how it used to be. A with modern weapons, the fear of these creatures looks a bit naive. In addition, in India or Mexico there are no fewer such animals, but people are actively settled there throughout the territory. For comparison: in Australia density 5.5 pers. per kilometer, in Mexico - 63, and in India - 411.

Australia's main problem is that it was on periphery. Among the British colonies, it was one of the most remote and sailing there at that time is another test. Therefore, voluntarily no one wanted to go there and the continent was populated by criminals. Some of them died right on the road, the most persistent ones sailed. Therefore, the country had a corresponding reputation - Australia was considered "sump" of Europe.

Well, now times have changed and Australia willingly accepts everyone wishing. But the population is still not increasing, and people settle only on the fertile coast.
