The US Air Force air show "Wings over Dallas", dedicated to Veterans Day in Dallas, ended in tragedy.
The show was scheduled for November 11-13, during the event, guests were supposed to see more than 40 aircraft from World War II, and saw the unscheduled destruction of two rarities.
During a demonstration performance, a P-63 Kingcobra rammed an American WWII B-17 Flying Fortress bomber.
Officials did not say how many people were on board the planes, but Hank Coates, president of the company that hosted the airshow, said the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber typically has a crew of four to five, while the P-63 Kingcobra fighter has one pilot. According to preliminary data, both crews died on the spot even before the arrival of rescuers.
According to the event's website, several aircraft were scheduled to conduct a flight demonstration on Saturday afternoon. According to social media reports, hundreds of people gathered to watch the performance. None of the spectators were hurt.
However, this is not the first such accident. In 2011, 11 people died in Reno, Nevada when a P-51 Mustang crashed into spectators. In 2019, a bomber crashed in Hartford, Connecticut, killing seven people.
