Icon 4x4, with a reputation for producing some of the of the highest quality restomods, recently introduced its latest project based on one of the most recognizable symbols of luxury at the end 1960s and early 1970s.

The Icon 4×4 California tailor who has made a name for himself on creating restomods based on classic cars, mainly SUVs, presented its new project. This time in the company chose an unusual base model, transforming a classic sedan Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. Specialists from Los Angeles made on the basis of one of the rarest cars in the history of the German brand a car with an unusual combination of retro elements and modern technology.

The original model, which was made from 1968 to 1972 was more than 6.5 thousand copies, received an American 6.2-liter supercharged V8 LS9 family from the arsenal of General Motors in combination with an automatic 4L85E gearbox designed for heavy SUVs and trucks.

The power output of the rear-wheel drive sedan has not been revealed, but a similar motor, for example, on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 of the C6 generation gave out 640 horsepower, so the restomod may have a similar power. The chassis was adapted for a more powerful engine, over employed by Art Morrison.

The frame is complemented by a new independent rear suspension, redesigned steering, as well as Brembo sports brakes. Visually restomod repeats the original model, but there are differences - except lowered suspension the car received new cast aluminum 18-inch EVOD wheels styled after the original rims. Modern LED optics is combined with an emphatically “worn out” body, made in the style of "rat-bow".

The original wood trim has been restored in the cabin, but the leather upholstery redone. The seats are heated, redesigned climate system, the instrument panel received a modern filling from Redline Gauges, and the standard audio system panel controls the installed concealed by Focal acoustics and supports the connection of smartphones via bluetooth. 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 sedan, which tuners turned into Icon Derelict, available for purchase. Project authors put the restomod up for auction with a starting price of 450 thousand dollars.
