Aaron Phoenix has hosted over 300 giant tarantula spiders. Arthropods even have their own bedroom. Phoenix started collecting spiders after being a psychotherapist advised him to take up a hobby to ease his bipolar disorders.
Aaron Phoenix, a moving planner from Bristol who received a psychotherapist advised to take up a hobby for the sake of mental health, addicted to collecting spiders. He began to collect the collection in the summer of 2021, and now he has as many as 300 large spiders. Lately his collection growing faster: so, back in March, he had only 120 spiders. BUT seven months later, the 35-year-old doubled the size of his collection.
His current pride and joy is a female Mexican Flame tarantula. Knee worth over £160 but his collection is still is growing.
“Everyone has their own passion, and so, mine is spiders, - Phoenix says. - Royal Mail deliveries already know me as "Spider-Man", because every week they bring me new pets with labeled "live animals" on the box. I can sit and watch them hours - they had an incredible impact on me, and now I never I will refuse them. True, those to whom I tell about my hobby usually do not can believe it."
“Over the past few months, I have shared my story on social media. networks, and a lot of people wrote to me, interested in this topic - says the collector. - There are much more positive things around on the Internet spiders than I thought, and it's nice. As for my illness, I have there are still difficult moments, but now I feel that in general my my mental health has improved and I'm really satisfied - thanks to my spiders."
Aaron has given his eight-legged friends an entire bedroom in his house. He spends almost all his free time looking at them. He is sure, that his vast collection of spiders "does wonders" for his mental health, and sitting with them in their room is his "happy time."
“They are my passion, my obsession, whatever you want to call it,” he admits.
True, admits Aaron, his partner Jo, 45, and their Teenage daughters Dannon, 18, and Lilly, 14, don't share it passions, although they recognize the positive influence of spiders. "First Joe and the kids were a little frightened,” he said, “but they immediately saw the positive effect it had on me and made me support".
Aaron hopes one day to open his own exotic pet shop and breed spiders for sale to collectors. "Final goal “Make it your job,” he says. - Sounds trite, but I I think this is what I was born for. There's a long road ahead and it's just the beginning."
