This is the most “democratic” prison in Europe. They say there is not a single disgruntled prisoner.





The construction of the Haren prison cost 382 million euros. For this a hefty sum was erected by the detention corps for men, a special center for men, a security center for women, a open regime for women, a psychiatric center and a prison hospitals. The prison can hold 1190 prisoners at the same time.



There is an entrance complex, a main building with a reception area visitors, a room for the reception of prisoners and a sports hall.





Ancillary buildings were also built: warehouses, a workshop for prisoners, administrative offices and a parking lot.



A bonus is a picnic space - there the inmates can celebrate a birthday or celebrate a meeting with relatives.

The creators of the prison received a prize in the nomination “The Best Social Institution”.

Such is the establishment. More like a sanatorium than a prison.



And most importantly, 55 judges and prosecutors voluntarily got into this jail for a day and a half. So they decided to check the conditions of detention prisoners and make sure that this “zone” meets the standards keeping the prisoners.



The experiment was successful. Everyone liked everything.
