In the Mojave Desert, on the territory of a cargo airport, there is a huge landfill where 14 thousand new or low-mileage Volkswagens are rotting. All of them were sent to the car cemetery because of their non-eco-friendly diesel engines.
Only a small part of them are re-equipped - changing the software firmware, modifying the particulate filter and installing an updated SCR system, while the rest of the cars are gathering dust in the desert. It is more profitable for Volkswagen to scrap these new cars than to sell them at cost.
The junkyard is constantly replenished with new cars.
