In the Pskov region, a family of swans that did not reach warmer climes was sheltered in the courtyard by the owner of a cafe (5 photos)
In mid-February, severe frosts hit the village of Murovitsy, near Pskov. For the swans who lived on the local pond, this was a real disaster, because their pond froze almost to the bottom!
The birds could no longer get food for themselves and were forced to come to people for help - dad, mom and 5 gray teenage swans. Village residents began to intensively feed the birds and look for options to save them. Two zoos abandoned the birds, but there was still a man who was able to save the poor fellows.
An animal lover named Lyudmila from the city of Ostrov sheltered birds on her property. The swans were housed in polycarbonate greenhouses. The temperature inside them is much higher than outside!
The bird shelter is located in the backyard of the cafe, owned by Lyudmila. The woman admits that she immediately agreed to shelter the birds, because otherwise they would not have survived!
Swans feel at home in greenhouses. Lyudmila selected a balanced diet for her clients. Their daily diet consists of carrots, cabbage and fish.
Along with the swans, other birds also live in the greenhouses. Surprisingly, they got along well with pheasant, cayuga duck, black roosters and other small birds.
Based on the ring on the paw of one of the swans, Lyudmila determined that this feathered family flew to the Pskov region from Riga. Apparently, they were heading to warmer climes, but the path turned out to be too difficult... Moreover, the swan father is in old age - even while catching birds, he did not pinch or hiss, but simply waited exhaustedly for what would happen next. True, now, having fattened up, the leader somewhat came to life and became cheerful!
Also, this family was joined by a local lonely swan, which was left completely alone on the pond. It has a darker color and at first was the rest of the family’s “unloved stepson,” but then it took root and became one of its own.
The owner also showed the neighboring enclosures - it turns out that she has a lot of all kinds of exotic living there: dwarf Cochin, silver seabrites, mandarin ducks, black swans and other living creatures.
In the summer, a pond is built for them, there are two houses - one for white birds, the other for dark birds, there is an alpine slide and mini-meadows for walking. True, for now all this is covered with a thick layer of snow.
“When I opened the cafe, there was a lot of bread left over. It’s a shame to throw them away, so I started a dozen laying hens. And then I started buying more and more. In general, I have loved animals all my life; I had a lot of cats and dogs. Once even a pig came running to me. I also contacted the police, thinking maybe someone had lost it. But the owner didn’t show up, and the pig began to live with me,” says Lyudmila.
Well, as the weather warms up, our main characters - the swans - are waiting not for cafe visitors, but for free will, since wild birds, if they are healthy, will be released in the spring. In the meantime, the birds are enjoying an almost resort vacation!
Thanks to Lyudmila, without her work the white family would never have taken wing!
