At night, the dog lifted the owner out of bed to save the child (6 photos)
The clock had just struck midnight. All the members of the Nuttal family were fast asleep. But then their dog, Jedi, started jumping on mom's bed - and didn't stop until Dorrie woke up!
The woman thought that the dog was being naughty and did not want to get up at such a late hour. The dog, however, refused to give up! When she jumped right on the owner and almost pushed her to the floor, she finally stood up.
Dorrie realized that something had happened...
It should be noted that their 7-year-old son, Luke, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was just 2 years old.
Since the boy was too young to recognize the symptoms of low blood sugar, the parents decided to adopt a special service dog that could recognize such symptoms and alert the parents about them.
Dorrie climbed out of bed and examined her son's glucose meter. The monitor showed the norm and continued to monitor his sugar level. Everything seemed to be fine and her son looked fine, so Dorrie turned to go back to bed.
But the dog was tireless. She blocked her path, repeating over and over again the signal she had been trained to send in cases of threat.
Dorrie knew this. And then the sleepy fog before my eyes began to clear up, as did my thoughts. Dorrie realized that something was going wrong...
She pricked her son's finger and measured his sugar level, which was only half of what the monitor showed! He was too low and was falling quickly...
Mom immediately gave her son glucose medications and made sure he felt better. Then I took a photo and posted it on Facebook:
“Luke was lying right next to me, inches away from me, but without the Jedi, I would not have even thought that my son was in danger,” she wrote in her post, which was shared by thousands of users. This is a photo taken that night:
It's amazing how some dogs can help people with diabetes. Sometimes animals understand children's health even better than their parents, a high-tech monitoring machine, or even the patient himself, as was the case in our case!
The secret is that dogs have an incredibly strong sense of smell. This amazing ability allows them to detect hormones, cancer, deadly bacteria and even mild symptoms of future attacks.
Dorrie said she set her alarm as usual to check Luke's blood sugar in an hour. But it would be too late...
Luke and his dog are inseparable, they literally do everything together now.
The Jedi understood his role and took it very seriously, which is why he managed to save the life of this little boy!
