When Little Bunny arrived as a kitten at a Las Vegas shelter, she had such an advanced case of ringworm that she was unlikely to ever be adopted. The staff decided to transfer the animal to the rescue service, which could provide him with the necessary help. But they refused to take the kitten and it was decided to euthanize it. How timely a woman with extensive experience working with stray animals appeared for Bunny! So she took care of her health.

Nikki Martinez heard about the baby and knew she needed to be given a chance. As soon as she brought her home, she realized how seriously sick the kitten was. I was honestly afraid that I wouldn’t be able to cope... According to the woman, Bunny’s hair was falling out, she weighed very little and was writing blood. “One day she was so weak that I was afraid to go to her in the morning and make sure she was still breathing.”

The cat miraculously survived the first few days in the foster home. And then a few more. And then there was hope that the animal would recover. But even when the kitten began to recover, he could not be left alone. And the woman found a way out!

“She needed to be isolated from my other foster pets, so she was always close to me,” Nikki says. “I wore shirts with large pockets on the chest and Bunny sat in them. I carried her with me everywhere so as not to be left alone. When I was doing household chores, when I was walking the dogs, when I went to the store... The kitten was with me everywhere and everywhere, " Martinez recalls.

With each new week of life, Bunny grew stronger, and the ringworm receded. Day after day, the kitten transformed and seemed ready to find a permanent home. But Nikki knew that finding the right owners for the animal would not be so easy.

However, Bunny found a great family who applied for adoption even though she had ringworm and her fur still hadn't fully grown back. Because I saw something bigger and more important in it.

According to Maria Jennings, the cat's new owner, she saw her on Instagram during the holidays in 2016-2017. “I subscribed to Martinez’s page, but immediately unfollowed her,” the woman recalls. “It was too painful to watch Bunny suffer and, frankly, I didn’t believe that she would cope. But her photos continued to appear and then Jack and I simply fell in love with this cat, wishing her a speedy recovery.”

Nikki was confident that Bunny would be happy and safe with her new owners. Jack and Maria already had two cats at that time. And after 9 weeks spent in a foster home, the cat finally moved to a permanent home.

“They not only adopted her, but also agreed to treat her fungus,” Martinez shares. "I couldn't have dreamed of a more loving and devoted family for Bunny than this."

The couple happily welcomed the new pet into their home and continued to care for her until she fully recovered. At that moment, Maria and Jack were sure that ringworm was completely defeated. But Bunny's case turned out to be much more advanced than everyone expected, and they still had to spend a lot of time treating her.

According to Jennings, the cat infected everyone around her, including her owners and their other pets. “As the animal grew older, the treatment of the animal became more and more traumatic and unpleasant, but Bunny endured all the hardships with dignity.”

Since her fur had already grown back and the cat had become active, few people knew the severity of her condition. At the same time, the new owners never regretted adopting her. On the contrary, they did everything to heal the animal. By that time, Bunny had become a full-fledged member of the family and her “parents” were doing their best to return her to a normal life.

“We bathed her once every two weeks, treated her for fungus, and disinfected our home from floor to ceiling every week. But even this didn’t really help,” recalls Maria. “After several months of no progress, our case of ringworm became so legendary that the vet enlisted the help of specialists, with whom he met once a week to discuss the next course of action.”

In the end, everything possible and impossible was tried. And then the veterinarians prescribed Bunny a completely different treatment, which suddenly worked! In September 2017, after 9 months of intense struggle, Bunny finally made a full recovery!

After everything the cat went through, she did not become nervous and irritable. On the contrary, she is very active and loves to climb anywhere and everywhere. With her cheerful personality, Bunny always brings joy to her family, reminding them that it was not in vain that they fought for her health.

“She had to be bathed so often that the cat developed a love for towels,” Jennings continues his story. "As soon as I get out of the shower, Bunny screams until I wrap her in one of the towels. Then I hold her like a baby and kiss her forehead again and again while she sleeps in my arms. Once I stop her kissing like a cat bites my nose! And she also likes to roll around the house in an Ikea bag. When she hears its rustling, she immediately rushes towards the sound! " - says Maria.

Of course, her life did not start out very smoothly. Or rather, she didn’t even have a life. But now Bunny has a devoted, compassionate family, with whose help she has grown into a sweet fighter cat. From now on she is happy, healthy and has already forgotten what ringworm is.

"Not every case is as severe as Bunny's," Jennings shares. “But absolutely every sick animal deserves to have a chance at recovery, which they are deprived of in shelters. You just need to find the time for this and pay close attention to their health. But isn’t it worth it?”

And what do you think?
