IZh - Saturn

There were several variants of Saturn. Their main distinguishing feature was that they had a frameless design, the gas tank, and the lining were made of fiberglass and served as a frame. Various engines were installed.

IZH-555

It was designed in 1965. Also had several options (option 3 is described)

Engine: 2 cylinders, 2 strokes, 493 cc. , cylinder diameter x piston stroke - 68x68, compression ratio 6.8, maximum power - 25 hp. at 5000 rpm, 4 speeds. The maximum speed with a side trailer is 95 km/h. Length 2260 mm, wheelbase 1420 mm, ground clearance 130 mm. Tires 3.5x18. Tank volume - 20 l. Weight (with stroller) 275 kg.

IZH-6.121

This motorcycle was being prepared to replace the popular Planet - Sport. However, due to low demand for PS, it was decided not to put IZH-6.121 into production. This motorcycle had a number of advantages over the PS: a raised muffler, improved appearance, and a two-cam front brake.

Escort motorcycles

IZh-Leader

This model stands apart, as it used a rotary engine produced by VAZ

IZH – VEGA

The chassis is a completely original design. The engine is opposed, four-stroke, gearbox is five-speed. Starting system – electric starter.

IZH-500

Based on the Vega engine, a road version was developed, which was unified with the 4th generation IZH, but with a slight change in the frame and a front disc brake.

IZH - JUPITER – 500

The motorcycle was a further continuation of the IZh-555, but with the 4th generation IZh chassis. An oil pump was installed for a separate lubrication system.

IZH-TRIAL

In the eighties, in the wake of trial competitions, IZH-TRIAL was designed. It had a single-cylinder engine and chassis of an original design.

IZH - SPRINTER - ORION – 560 (7.109)

At the end of the 80s, the media promised all those suffering the appearance of the newest “Izh-Orion” - with a licensed four-stroke engine of solid volume, a powerful telescopic fork, disc brake, cast wheels... You'll lick your fingers! “Izhmash” announced their imminent appearance on sale. It’s no joke, the engine is from a Yamaha XT550, less than ten years have passed since the start of production. However, the long-awaited new product did not surprise the world. Work on “Izh 7.109 Orion” was in full swing with the involvement of the most powerful developers, they had all the creative forces of Izhmash in hand. This concentration of specialists was explained by the fact that the industry leadership decided to transfer production in Izhevsk to the production of international-class equipment with an engine capacity of 500 cubic cm. For this purpose, they bought a license from Yamaha for the production of a four-stroke engine, front fork, cast wheels and disc brake with hydraulic drive. “Izh-Orion”, in fact, was supposed to open a fundamentally new modular family of motorcycles: with a replaceable tail part of the frame and subframe for installing various power units, a monoshock rear suspension and the appearance of a classic road bike... The result is zero!

At first, no one thought about what to “feed” the four-stroke air-cooled engine (motor oil must lubricate the components of both the engine and gearbox). In the Soviet Union at that time there was no oil suitable for Japanese engines. And in Izhevsk they began to cut the “Japanese” to our standards: separating the engine and gearbox by oil. It’s better not to know how many bumps have been made in the process of such demodernization. Never before have the domestic motorcycle industry used such parts as a compact oil filter, large-diameter piston rings, an original timing chain and a roller bearing for the lower end of the connecting rod. The greatest harm was caused by technologists who sought to simplify detailing, shapes and, most importantly, reduce costs. But they built it anyway: lame and cross-eyed - yes, ours! A pilot batch, assembled almost by hand, was nevertheless released. However, remarks like: who needs such a problematic motorcycle began to be heard from above? The “four-stroke” project died ingloriously.

IZH – SPRINTER – SIRIUS – 400

The motorcycle was created by “implanting” into the “Orion” chassis a liquid two-stroke engine of our own production, unified by the gearbox with a Yamaha engine. Testing of such motorcycles, called “Izh 7.110 Sirius,” was carried out in full swing, and adjustments to the design documentation were nearing completion. A new product also appeared in the plant’s advertising brochures. But the more successful things were, the cooler the heads of motorcycle production at the Izhmash defense holding were towards the release of new cars. They pressed on little things, demanded new checks of components, adjusted them to the old GOSTs... And the “young” were driven into the grave.

IZH – PLANET – 400

A motorcycle with an improved engine with a capacity of 400 cc was being prepared to replace Planet 5. cm.

IZH - PLANETA-6 (option 1)

The motorcycle featured a modern design, an engine with electronic ignition, water cooling, an oil pump, and a five-speed gearbox.

IZH – PLANET – 6 (option 2)

The engine of Planet 6 is installed in the chassis of Planet 5.

IZH – Jupiter 6

The chassis is unified with Planet 6 (option 1). The engine is used from Jupiter 5-03, which is being developed for this chassis.
