When I stick an 8GB flash drive or a terabyte hard drive into a USB port, I don’t even think about how this happened just ten years ago. In an era when films were watched on videotapes or on TV, and not downloaded from the Internet. When 1.44 megabytes on a flash drive floppy disk was enough for a bunch of files. 2. The first floppy disk appeared in 1971, its diameter was 8 inches (20 cm), and its volume was 80 KB. It was a plastic plate with a ferromagnetic coating applied to it.
The record itself was packaged in a flexible plastic case. This was done to protect information from dust, scratches and other physical damage.

5. In 1984, a double-density 3.5-inch floppy disk with a capacity of 720 KB was released. A couple of years later, the last mass version of floppy disks was released - 3.5 inches, high density, 1.44 MB.
Often such a floppy disk was truly a valuable medium. The Internet in our country was almost undeveloped at a broad level, and even local networks were not available everywhere. Therefore, this was often almost the only way to transfer digital information. What can I say, my first FineRider for the scanner was recorded on ten such floppy disks.
By the way, speaking about the value of these media, I remember one incident in my second year. On the eve of the object-oriented programming exam (for which you had to bring a written program), someone told the terrible truth that there is a strong magnetic field in the subway, which very often demagnetizes floppy disks... Everyone who usually went to the university by subway, let's take another transport...
