In October 2025, police in Manaus, Brazil, rescued a jaguar that had become exhausted in the Rio Negro. It clung to a float alongside a boat and was towed to shore.
Veterinarians found about 30 lead pellets in its body. After roughly 40 days of treatment, the jaguar was released back into the forest. Before that, it was fitted with a GPS collar to track its movements.
