Volvo ranks at the bottom of the car reliability rankings (2 photos)
For a long time, Volvo was associated primarily with reliability and durability. However, new research shows that the situation has changed dramatically. In the latest vehicle reliability rankings, owners are reporting more problems, and the brand is near the bottom of the list.
According to a recent J.D. Power study, Volvo owners reported 296 problems per 100 vehicles. This is almost the same as Volkswagen (301) and significantly higher than the industry average of 204 problems.
By comparison, Volvo's figure was 242 a year ago, indicating a significant deterioration. The main reasons cited are difficulties implementing over-the-air updates and the rapid transition to hybrids and electric vehicles.
The new models received more complex software, which proved less stable than expected. As a result, owners are more frequently encountering errors in the multimedia, electronics, and control systems.
The company is already trying to rectify the situation by working on new electric vehicles and improving the software. Specifically, it is focusing on the next generations of the EX series. ![]()
