Buffalo saved a relative from lions

In South Africa, a herd of buffalo came to the aid of a fellow buffalo who was surrounded by 17 lions. The incident occurred in Kruger National Park.

A buffalo, separated from the herd, was surrounded by 17 lions. Although they didn't all attack him at once, he had nowhere to run. He stampeded around, trying to evade one predator after another, screaming desperately.

His cries attracted his fellow buffalo. When several buffalo cautiously approached the lions, the wounded animal seized the opportunity and hobbled toward them. This saved him: although the lions initially followed him, they avoided getting too close to the other buffalo and eventually fell behind.

Kruger National Park is located in northeastern South Africa. It is home to approximately 1,500 lions, 12,000 elephants, 2,500 buffalo, about 1,000 leopards, and 5,000 rhinos.
