A Bar Opens in Japan That Offers Free Drinks to Burned-Out Employees Who Want to Resign (2 photos)
Tenshoku Sodan Bar in Yokohama is a place to discuss career doubts with a professional recruiter over a cocktail.
A unique place for those considering a career change has opened in Japan. Tenshoku Sodan Bar has opened at Yokohama Station. Professional career consultants from the LIA recruitment agency serve as bartenders, and the main topic of conversation is career paths and career doubts.
The idea arose from the realization that many employees are unsatisfied with their jobs and are on the verge of quitting. People experiencing such doubts often have no one to discuss their thoughts with: friends and family are biased, and contacting a recruiting agency requires formality, concrete plans, and feels like too serious a step.
The bar, in turn, offers an informal conversation with an expert without the need to don a business suit, write a resume, or feel pressured to find a new job. According to the organizers, about 60% of visitors aren't yet ready to hand in their resignation. They come to discuss abstract questions in a relaxed atmosphere: "Is this job right for me long-term?" "What are my options?"
Conversations last 60-90 minutes, with no strict time limits. Business discussions, like drinks, are completely complimentary for these guests. Advance reservations are required via the Line messenger to visit the bar. This rule is in place to ensure confidentiality and the quality of the conversation. ![]()
